Lesson in Street Photography
April 1981, Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Now for the rest of the story….
On a early Sunday Morning, April 1981, while on a port visit to the island of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, I went out with PH1 Jim Preston (US Navy’s All Hands Magazine). He was willing to teach me how to shoot street work. We found this older beggar outside of the cathedral, as church was letting out. He allowed us to photograph him. I submitted this print to the 1981 Utah State Fair, and won First Place Professional Division. The print now hangs (with its ribbon) in my house.
The man walking is the second location we stopped at. This was a lesson on finding the location and waiting for the photographic opportunity to come. I honestly don’t think this gentleman was paying much attention to two Americans waiting with cameras, in this covered walkway.
