Trained by the US Navy and returned as a hobbiest

Who I am and what do I do

I joined the US Navy in 1978, retiring in 1998, My first enlistment i was a Photographer’s Mate, Though a packed three months of school, I learned the basics of photography and darkroom work.

I was able to ply this trade through two commands and use it for a couple months in support of my third command.

Approximately 10 years after i retired from the Navy, I picked up photography as a hobby again, It has grown from 35mm into medium and large format work,

Currently I shoot 35mm, various medium format including 6×17 cm (2 1/4×7 inch), 4×5 and 5×7. Hope to start shooting street portraits on 8×10 in 2027

Professionally I am a truck driver who gets lucky to take his camera on the road.

Personally I find the process of large format photography as therapy, The time it takes to find a location, set up the camera and get a single shot gives one plenty of time to think about how they are presenting a subject. I like to think I take the same process to small cameras as well as my digital.
